Individual Therapy
The overarching aims of therapy can be boiled down to two main goals: that you - as my client - feel as comfortable and safe in the therapeutic setting as possible, and second, that you thrive as a person, whatever that means to you. We will spend time talking about what is important to you in your life, and also focus on the therapeutic relationship between us, as our relationship can be a window through which we can view other significant relationships in your life. I will view you as a whole person as opposed to a collection of symptoms/diagnoses, and we will work to create more meaning in your life and not just remove unwanted symptoms.
Couples work
I also specialize in co-therapy for couples who are dating, married, and/or separated. Relationships are deeply rewarding and can be equally draining. I work with couples who are experiencing difficulties in many areas of a relationship, including communication patterns, parenting, life stressors and transitions, infidelity, decisions about marriage, and sexual intimacy. I integrate the Gottman Method and IMAGO Relationship principles, helping partners move from disconnection to understanding. We focus on rebuilding trust, improving communication, and creating the emotional safety needed for intimacy to thrive—especially for women who feel unseen or unheard in their relationships.
Groups
Group therapy is a type of therapy where clients gain support from peers, increase self-awareness in relation to others, and learn from other group members’ experiences and perceptions. Group therapy is effective for individuals who would like to achieve personal growth in a variety of areas related to interpersonal functioning, acceptance, trust, assertiveness, conflict, vulnerability, and risk-taking. Group therapy is also helpful for individuals working through issues related to depression, anxiety, and adjustment issues. My groups consist of 8 people or less.
Group therapy fosters interpersonal interactions that lead to increased self-awareness, enhanced social skills, and deeper understanding of personal behaviors and relationship patterns.Group is beneficial for individuals eager to delve into their interpersonal dynamics and gain insights into their behaviors within relationships. By examining interactions within the group, participants can reflect on and understand patterns that may affect their external relationships. This process involves bringing one's authentic self to the group, embracing both vulnerabilities and strengths, to foster genuine connections and personal growth.
The therapeutic process within the group emphasizes exploring connections and disconnections among members, facilitating a deeper understanding of oneself and others. Members are encouraged to share their full range of experiences, thoughts, and feelings…contributing to a rich and supportive environment that promotes healing and personal development. The group process will continually seek to interweave the “outside” experiences of the individuals (what is happening or not happening in their significant relationships, work, families, health, etc.,) with the “inside” experiences that are occurring within the group. By engaging in this process, individuals gain valuable insights into their interpersonal relationships and develop more effective ways to connect with others in various aspects of their lives and better work toward achieving what they want in life/career/relationships. Participating in group therapy can be one of the most transformative experiences that psychotherapy can provide.
